How to Brief an AI Fashion Photography Agency (Free Template Inside)
The single biggest predictor of AI fashion photoshoot quality is the brief. A tight brief gets you a great shoot in 48 hours. A vague brief gets you three rounds of revisions and a mediocre result. Here is the brief structure every brand should use.
Product section
List every garment going through the shoot. For each: SKU, name, primary color, colorway variants, material, and a product photo (ghost mannequin preferred, flat-lay acceptable, rack shot last resort). Flag any garment with unusual drape, extreme texture, or complex construction so the agency flags it for careful rendering.
Creative direction section
Mood board. Three to ten reference images. Not your product references — environment and styling references. Links to existing campaigns the new work needs to sit alongside. Brand guidelines PDF if you have one. A one-paragraph brand voice statement: what are you, what are you not.
Be specific about feel. 'Minimalist editorial with cool undertones and empty space' is a usable direction. 'Make it cool' is not.
Model section
Ethnicity, age range, body type, hair color, height impression. If you have specific brand-trained models from prior engagements, reference the model code. Flag if models need to be consistent across shots (almost always yes for campaigns, sometimes no for PDPs where variety is valuable).
Location / environment section
Studio white seamless, studio cyc with color, gradient background, lifestyle interior, lifestyle exterior, editorial environment. Reference images for anything beyond a simple studio. If the shoot needs localization per market, list the markets and the environmental references for each.
Output section
Number of shots per SKU. Aspect ratios (3:4 for PDP, 4:5 for social, 16:9 for banner, 9:16 for Reels/Stories). Resolution (72dpi web, 300dpi print, or native). Final file format (JPG, PNG, WebP). Usage rights required (owned, licensed).
Timeline and approval
Delivery target. Feedback loops: single round of revisions is normal, unlimited within 7 days is agency standard. Final sign-off name. Launch date if the shoot is tied to a drop.
